Readers are Leaders Program
1_2021white2 (2).jpg

In the Saint Florian Center Readers are Leaders Program, each student is partnered with a Firefighter or volunteer at least once per week. We work with the student's classroom teacher to ensure that reading takes place on all other days during the week. As students, firefighters, and the teacher read together, they foster a sense of commitment to each other, strive towards a common goal of hours read by each, and celebrate enhanced reading skills!

This program encourages students to increase their motivation to read more with a focus on reading comprehension through the challenge to record reading in 15-minute increments. As reading goals are accomplished our students are recognized with prizes!

This program is currently run through Indianapolis Center For Inquiry (CFI) School 27, as well as during our After School Program at Carl Wilde School 79 and our Summer Camp. At the CFI school, we work with one grade per month, beginning with the youngest students, during the school year.

If you are interested in learning more about the reading program, please contact us for more information. We have, and are more than happy to, share our model with groups and communities around the country!
